about

dorsal (aka Dave Lancaster) has previously had support from BBC Introducing, Reprezent Radio and Amazing Radio alongside features from Pretend Magazine and the Unsigned Guide. rewilding is his first project since October 2020, and hears the artist living between different worlds of music, without ever really fitting into any, forming his own independent identity.

‘tusk’ hears the artist finding the best way to represent themselves. Samples that evoke a raw, cathartic response are weaved amongst more natural sounding instruments like pianos, strings and saxophone (Chloe Hayward & Tom Kettleton) in order to strike the balance between digital and acoustic. This is the realm where Dorsal exists.

Confronting the inevitable and fraying nature of adulthood, ‘galanthus’ ponders lost friends and relationships. Featuring the unique musicianship of the Leeds underground with artists such as Alessio Scozzaro (Vraell), Chole Hayward on strings and Tom Kettleton (Far Caspian) on Sax, the track is a musical reflection of Yorkshire's natural and industrial landscapes through an amalgamation of different acoustic and digital timbres.

The only love song on the album, ‘larkspur’ considers the humility another person can give you. Musically the song is a collage of samples that evoked a strong emotional response, inspired by the natural and industrial landscapes that contrast Yorkshire.

rewilding is released on Friday 24th November 2023.
